KAREN Gillan has delighted Doctor Who fans by releasing the first ever picture of herself and Matt Smith in character.
The Scots actress posted the anniversary treat – showing Smith with a floppy mullet – on Tuesday evening and the following morning it had been retweeted 7,000 times.
The Time Lord is wearing his familiar jacket and bowtie in the “camera test” picture, while Amy Pond, played by 26-year-old Gillan, is wearing an oversized sweater.
Gillan tweeted: “First pic of Matt and I in character was released four years ago today, but I have the real one..from the first camera test”
Smith’s hair seems to have become more closely cropped by the time the official picture was released.
Doctor Who fans Tweeted their appreciation. Guy Lamber wrote: “Floppy-haired goodness!” and Brittany Sandler added: “So much hair. Love it!”
Gillan ended her run as the Doctor’s companion in 2012, and Smith bowed out as the Time Lord in December last year.
The latest incarnation of the Doctor, played by Scots actor Peter Capaldi, is currently filming for the next series of the hit sci-fi show.
