ANDY Murray has brought a piece of Wimbledon to his luxury Perthshire hotel by having his tennis courts designed in the SW19 colours.
It has been revealed that the tennis star’s mother, Judy, secured special permission from the All-England Club to use the famous green and purple colours at the Cromlix Hotel.
Ms Murray instructed tennis court designers, Doe Sport North, to create a full size court using the exact colours that were adopted by Wimbledon in 1909.
But the news is unlikely to impress Murray’s tenants who face being forced from their homes to make way for staff housing at the five star hotel.
Backlash against the star was prompted last week with people branding him a “disgrace” and a “moron” after residents living in The Square behind his hotel, said that they were being evicted.
Despite the row, work goes on at the hotel, which is due to open on April 1.
Les Maclean, managing director of Doe Sport North confirmed that Ms Murray has received special permission from Wimbledon to use the colours.
Mr Maclean said: “The first time I met Judy up there at Cromlix was last April, before Andy won Wimbledon in the July.
“She was clear then that she wanted Wimbledon colours.
“There was no discussion. Our manufacturer knows the colour numbers. We got it exactly right.
“Judy sorted it out with the All-England Club. She’s done a lot for them.
“Judy wanted what you see on the ATP tour courts so they’ve got the hotel name at one end and Doe Sport at the other end.”
“We do a lot of tennis courts for the rich and famous.”
“We pulled out all the stops to get it done. I’m very proud of it. I’m sure Andy Murray will feel at home.”
A spokesman for the All England-Club said: “If it gets more people playing and enjoying tennis, so much the better.”
Andy Murray has been at the centre of a row after tenants living in The Square, just yards away from his hotel, have revealed they are being forced to move to make way for staff housing.
The families claim that they had been given just weeks to find new houses as Murray was planning to buy their current homes for their landlords.
One of the tenants who lives at The Square, Kathleen Brown, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and has a young daughter said that she was “devastated” to learn she would have to move from her home.
