Poetic justice: Police warning to Valentine’s Day criminals

POLICE Scotland officers found themselves discussing poetry yesterday after tweeting a Valentine’s Day verse.

Officers using the EdinburghCityPolice Twitter account took to verse to make it clear there would be no February 14 let up on miscreants.

They tweeted: “Roses are red, Violets are blue, If you commit crime on Valentines day, We’ll put you in a grey cell #polisnotpoets.”

Andrew Wright proved the force’s harshest literary critic, tweeting: “So bad it’s good, but please stick to the day job lol.”

Others suggested Police Scotland were struggling with poetic technicalities such as rhythm and meter.

They replied: “It’s no fun if it scans!”

A legally-minded Twitter user, kevin blowe, joked: “As violets are in fact not blue you’ll then be released without charge for evidential inconsistencies.”

Alternative suggestions also flooded in.

Caroline Feraday said: “Roses are red, police lights are blue, don’t break the law or the lights’ll be for you…?”

Sarah McBaker suggested: “Why not ‘Roses are red, Violets are blue, If you are a dobbar, we will book you.”

And Tony C offered: “Rose are red, Violets are blue, criminals are the scum, and we’re out to get you!”

The original police poem was retweeted 1,887 in just four hours.
