A PRIMARY school teacher who pushed a pupil causing him to stumble has been struck off.
Jeroen Van Der Kaay admitted he shouted at the pupil and “took hold of his shoulders or neck” at Rowantree Primary School in Dundee.
The incident happened on 1 July 2011, when Mr Van Der Kaay was a newly qualified teacher on the Teacher Induction Scheme.
A General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) panel found Mr Van Der Kaay “unfit to teach,” and removed his name from the register for a minimum of two years.
The induction scheme is a one-year programme which provides new teachers with the year of work they need to become fully qualified.
Mr Van Der Kaay who did not attend the hearing, admitted he “acted inappropriately” towards the unnamed male pupil and agreed to be struck off.
He admitted he “shouted at him, physically took hold of his shoulders and/or neck as he got up from his chair.”
He also admitted he “ushered him towards the door of the classroom, and pushed him causing him to lose his balance and stumble.”
The GTCS panel chair said: “The panel has had time to consider the removal with consent during private hearing.
“He freely and willingly consents to be removed from the register.
“The panel agrees in view of the declaration he made that he should be removed from the register for two years.”
The panel agreed that his name should not be referred under the protection of vulnerable groups scheme – which can ban him from working with children.
Rowantree Primary School, on Dundee’s Birk’s Terrace, has 258 pupils.
