A SCOT given a 1% chance of survival after a horror accident abroad has returned home after astounding medics with his recovery.
Kevin Skelly almost lost his life after the scooter crash in Taiwan two years ago which left him with massive brain injuries.
The 47-year-old, who was living in Taiwan, just off the coast of China, slipped off his bike at a junction and his head was run over by a car.
Lucky to survive at all, he spent six months in intensive care and needed eight operations followed by intensive physiotherapy.
Now the bar manager has finally recovered enough to make the 6,000 mile journey to his friends and family in his home community of Broughty Ferry, Dundee.
Catching up with friends at a local pub, Kevin said seeing everyone has been “really great.”
He said: “I’ve been catching up with old friends and it was great to be in the Fisherman’s last night and see everyone.
“It’s been a lot of pain to get back walking.”
Even though a significant amount of time has passed since the accident, Kevin, who lost his sight in his left eye, still struggles to remember the accident.
“I remember waking up in the hospital and they were doing all these tests on my body. It was a lot of pain.”
On the night of February 16, 2012, Kevin had left his home in the town of Taipei to meet his wife, Jenny Chen, after a dance rehearsal.
It was raining heavily and Kevin went ahead on his scooter while she followed in a car but in just seconds their lives were turned upside down.
It is believed his scooter skidded and Kevin was thrown on to the road – into the path of oncoming traffic.
Jenny said: “I didn’t really see what happened. I think he tried to go through the yellow traffic light. He tried to brake and he fell. The bike just flew away but other people came out on a green light and just flew into his head.”
The mother of two added: “The doctors think he’s just a miracle.”
The couple married in 2008 and have since had two children, Kira and Callum.
They travelled to Broughty Ferry on October 2 and is due to return to Taiwan shortly.
