Andy Murray joked that he would be late to receive his OBE as he was in the middle of a drug test

ANDY Murray joked he would be late to receive his OBE  – because he was in the middle of a drug test.

The tennis star, who has previously complained about the strict anti-doping regime, took to Twitter at 8.30am to suggest he might miss his date with Prince William.

Murray tweeted: “In the middle of a drug test hahaha I’m going to be late!!!”

Murray’s tennis arch-rival shared in the hilarity. Novak Djokovic tweeted: “@andy_murray haha.”

The 26-year-old was received his OBE from Prince William at Buckingham Palace.

Speaking in 2009, Murray said that “no one wants cheats in the sport” but admitted he was frustrated with having to let the World Anti-Doping Agency know where he was around the clock.

Murray revealed that just three days before the 2009 Wimbledon an anti-doping official came to his house in Surrey after 9pm for an “out-of-hours visit”.

And then during the US Open he was awoken at 7:15am on his day off by the drug-squad.

Murray said: “It was such a hassle.

“I don’t know what it’s like in other sports. I’m sure it’s tough for the athletics guys as well. I’d just like it to be a little bit more relaxed.

“I just think it’s a little bit in your face the whole thing.”
