Scotland’s first drive-thru doughnut shop came close to causing traffic chaos – two days after its official opening.
Hundreds of sweet-toothed Scots are still queuing up in droves to buy the sickly sweet treats at Krispy Kreme, Hermiston Gait, in Edinburgh.
Traffic tailed back to one of the busiest bypass junctions in the city today as customers eagerly waited in their cars to sample a doughnut from the American franchise.
Motorists still seemed happy to wait for more than half an hour in their cars 48 hours after Scotland’s first Krispy Kreme opened its doors.
Families on half term were amongst the hundreds of customers anxiously lining up to buy the doughnuts.
Traffic trailed back hundreds of metres towards one of the busiest bypass junctions in Edinburgh.
Twitter users showed their amazement that Scots were so eager to queue for the doughnuts.
The Bike Chain tweeted: “Krispy Kreme drive thru opened in Edinburgh. Like we need a new place to drive to and get fat from… cheers planning dept. More great work.”
Kevin Gilmartin wrote: “sounds to me like the real doughnuts were the ones outside the shop.”
Another added: “What is wrong with these cretins. Jesus wept.”
