Chanel catwalk reused for local talent show

THE CATWALK used in Chanel’s very first Scottish fashion show is going to be used as a stage in a local talent show.

The structure which featured in the Metiers d’Art show at Linlithgow Palace, West Lothian, will be used in a community talent show at the end of January in the town of Linlithgow.

Chanel designer, Karl Lagerfeld, used the wooden structure to showcase his own Scottish-inspired clothing at the £2million event back in December last year.

Linlithgow Palace was the host for Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show

Historic Scotland is now working with local representatives to plan the talent show using Chanel’s stage to give local talent the opportunity to showcase their own creativity in fashion, drama and music.

It is hoped that the structure, which will act as the stage, will demonstrate to the community the wealth of talent that exists in the Scottish town.
However, after the talent show in January, it will be removed and recycled as it was only ever designed to be a temporary structure.

Last year, after the Chanel show the stage was temporarily kept in Linlithgow Palace’s courtyard to give visitors a chance to see how the event looked and get a sense of the night’s atmosphere.

It was originally created to house the global fashion event which saw model Stella Tennant showcase the Scottish-inspired range.

400 guests attended the exclusive event including Bryan Ferry’s son Otis and model Poppy Delevigne.

Since 2002, Karl Lagerfeld has dedicated his annual ready-to-wear collection to showcase specialist craftsmanship around the world, this year drawing inspiration from Scotland.

He hosts the show in a different country every year.
