A SCOTTISH chip shop is serving up the ultimate, artery-clogging seasonal treat – a 1,000 calorie deep-fried Christmas pudding.
Café Piccante in Edinburgh is offering the delicacy to customers over the festive season for £3.50.
The individual puddings come in at 327 calories each, but frying in batter adds about 300 calories, and two generous scoops of ice cream add at least another 400 calories.
The dish is likely to have a fat content in excess of 25%.
But cafe owner Selim Sener says it is the wrong time of the year to be worrying too much about nutrition.
The 41-year-old said: “I want to cheer people up at Christmas and hopefully the battered puddings will help.”
Mr Sener first got the idea to start frying the indulgent puddings which contain sugar, treacle, fruit and suet, from his ex-wife.
He said: “We started doing fried mars bars years ago then my ex-wife suggested the Christmas pudding.
“So we decided we should and we started selling it a couple days ago.”
