FIREFIGHTERS had to use special lifting gear to free a man stuck underneath a bus in the early hours of this morning.
Paramedics at the scene called in fire crews to help free the man trapped under the bus in Learmonth Terrace, Edinburgh, the fire service said.
The drama happened outside the Learmonth Hotel, a Travelodge, at 1.35am, and the 49-year-old man was rushed to hospital with chest injuries after being freed.
A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a call from the Scottish Ambulance Service saying a person was trapped underneath a bus.
“Lifting equipment was used to free the male casualty, who was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmay by ambulance.”
The equipment would likely include inflatable air bags used to lever up the bus and allow the man to be freed, the spokeswoman said.
The operation to free the man took around 20 minutes, she said.
It is not currently known how the man came to be underneath the vehicle.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance service said while the man had fallen under the bus, he was not “trapped” there.
