Campbell in a spin over ‘tweed tweet’

FORMER Labour spin doctor Alastair Campbell was left red-faced after accidentally tweeting a picture of himself wearing posh hunting clothes.

Campbell – who helped Tony Blair’s Government push through a ban on fox hunting – claimed the snap of his wearing upper-class get-up was meant as a private joke for his wife and daughter.

But the outspoken Scot tweeted the intimate snap to his 182, 257 followers earlier today.

Alastair Campbell meant to tweet this picture of him posing in a hunting outfit to his wife and daughter

Followers of Campbell were quick to tease the former Journalist about his “Tory” outfit, with one, Fiona Laird, writing: “Dangerous! I think you should say you had broken into David Cameron’s wardrobe.”

Stephen Lindop, added: “What are you doing in Tory hunting outfit?”

Campbell was quick to defend the picture, writing “Can’t believe this is on Twitter. Did I press the wrong button? Was sending it to my daughter and Fiona for a laugh because I hate Downtown.

“The perils of using iPhone without specs. Email next to tweet!

“Not my taste,” he added.

Earlier this year Campbell had a Twitter feud with The Thick of it Writer Armando Iannucci over the satirist’s acceptance of an OBE.

The outspoken Scot tweeted Iannucci: “OBE joins the Establishment he claims to deride. Malcolm Tucker and I do not approve of honours system.”

The outspoken Scot refers to a character in Iannucci’s satire The Thick Of It, a government spin doctor strongly believed to be based on Campbell.

The witty satirist hit back however, tweeting: “It’s probably more Establishment to order your army to march into other countries for no reason. Swings and roundabouts.”
