Concern growing for missing woman Heather McKay

CONCERN is growing for a woman who went missing from her friend’s home, with her daughter making a desperate plea for help.

Heather McKay, 51, was last seen in Dechmont, West Lothian at around 7.30am on Friday, and her disappearance is said to be completely out of charachter.

A huge police operation is trying to locate Ms McKay, with volunteers joining in the search.

She was last seen in the Dechmont, near Broxburn area by a friend who she had been staying with.

Her family say they are “worried sick,” and have set up a huge online campaign to search for her.

Officers are speaking to locals and examining CCTV in and around the Dechmont area.

When another friend called at the house Ms McKay was staying at at 8.30am the same day the 51-year-old was not there.

Police are distributing posters of the missing woman, and over the weekend locals in the area have been helping search for her.

 

“Worried sick” 

Ms McKay’s 24-year-old daughter, Andrea Waddell, said: “Mum’s disappearance is so out of character and none of us can understand what has happened to her.

“We are such a close family and my mum has a wide circle of friends.

“She is a keen walker and enjoys going for lunch with her friends and family.

“We’re all worried sick and are desperate for any news that can help put our minds at rest.”

Ms Waddell, has set up a Facebook page called “Heather Mckay Missing Person,” in a bid to raise awareness and find her mum.

Almost 4,000 people have already “liked” the page and have offered words of support to Ms Waddell.

Kim Hunter said: “Thinking of you Andrea. I hope your mum is home safe and sound soon xxx.”

The Facebook page has been regularly updated with information and contact details for anyone that can help find Heather.

Inspector Stephen Innes from Lothian and Borders Police said: “Heather has not been seen since early on Friday morning, and we are growing more and more concerned for her well-being with every hour that passes.

“Our extensive enquiries have so far not revealed anything that might identify her whereabouts, and her disappearance is highly out of character.”

He continued: “We are grateful for the help that the local community have provided in helping us raise awareness, and I would encourage anyone who thinks they might have seen Ms McKay to get in touch with us immediately.”

Heather McKay is described as being around 5ft 7ins tall, medium build with hazel/ green eyes and brown hair.

She speaks with a Scottish accent and has a small burn mark on her forearm and a small tattoo on her right shoulder.

She may be wearing a light blue Berghaus rain jacket, jeans and a pair of brown hi-tec walking boots.
