Bursaries available for potential publishers

STUDENTS with a dream of working in publishing are being offered bursaries by a Scottish university.

The University of Dundee is offering bursaries of up to £5000 to postgraduate students in the College of Arts and Social Sciences for those with the aim of eventually working in publishing.

The successful students will be given the opportunity to work for Dundee University Press (DUP), a company that, since its establishment in 2007 has published 55 books with 50 more set up in the pipeline.

The students will have to commit to spending 800 hours in the DUP office undertaking a wide variety of roles including marketing and promotion.

Opportunities for development in editorial, production or other aspects of publishing may be offered to candidates depending on their interest, availability and experience.

Students with a background in either humanities or law are particularly urged to apply.

DUP Publishing Manager Anna Day said “The standard and volume of applications we receive is always impressive, and this is a fantastic opportunity for students who wish to work in publishing to get hands-on experience and get paid at the same time.”

To apply please send your CV and a letter of no more than 500 words to: Anna Day, Publishing Manager, DUP Ltd, Tower Building, University of Dundee – a.c.day@dundee.ac.uk
