BRITAIN’S servicemen and women wounded in battle are set to receive a funding boost thanks to the new Help for Heroes tartan.
The country’s largest hire wear company, ACS Clothing, as well as a host of other well-known UK retailers will be offering kilts or trousers in the tartan for hire.
The kilt will be available in over 1000 different outlets across the country including Youngs Hire at Debenhams, Suit Direct, Burton, Slaters and Greenwoods as well as independent retailers Cameron Ross and Ultimate Formal Hire.
Managing Director of ACS Clothing, Richard Freeman, stated: “We’re tremendously honoured to be able to play a part in providing wounded servicemen and women with the support they need.
“Given the sacrifices these brave people have made on our behalf, coming up with a way that both honours their contribution and provides help in a very practical way was the very least we could do.
“The designers have worked closely with Scotland’s finest weavers to create a distinctive and attractive modern tartan that offers something a bit different from the traditional plaids and we expect that it will prove very popular.
“Every time one of the new kits is hired, Help for Heroes will receive a donation of £4, with the participating shop providing half that sum and ACS Clothing matching their contribution.”
The tartan was designed by the renowned Edinburgh firm of military tailors, GB Tailoring, and it takes its inspiration from the colours of the charity’s logo.
It is being manufactured to the highest standards by the famous weavers Lochcarron and will be available to hire for functions as of July 2012.
Freeman concluded: “We think this is a very exciting way of supporting a great cause while also offering our wearers a new and exciting design.
“The tartan is stunning, combining black, red, duck-egg blue and navy and looks great with a black sporran and black Argyll jacket.
“We are really excited about this and think that it should prove a great choice for weddings, dinners and other formal events.”
