Seven people charged following a series of raids

A FURTHER seven people have been arrested and charged, following a series of raids in the West of Edinburgh, yesterday.

As part of Operation Climate, Lothian and Borders Police targeted addresses in the Dalry and Wester Hailes areas of the city to disrupt the activities of individuals believed to be involved in drug dealing.

Around 90 officers were involved in the operation, which acted upon information from the local communities to search a total of 11 addresses.

Quantities of Heroin and Cannabis were recovered along with various items of stolen property and weapons including Samurai swords and machetes.

Following additional enquiry yesterday evening, a further 50 wraps of Herbal Cannabis and over £3,500 in cash was seized from an address in Wester Hailes.

The total value of drugs recovered so far is £4,000.

Detective Inspector Gordon McCreadie said: “Thanks to the vital information we received from the public through our continued engagement, Lothian and Borders Police has removed dangerous drugs and weapons from our communities and located stolen property, which will now be returned to the rightful owners.

“Operation Climate is an excellent reflection of our Community Commitment pledge, which we launched in September 2010.

“The community voiced their concerns over drug dealing in their local area and we have responded accordingly.

“We will continue to listen to the needs of our communities and act on any intelligence they provide us with relating to crime.

“Anyone who wishes to report ongoing criminal activity in their community should contact their local policing team or alternatively make an anonymous report via the Charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Two men aged 48 and 43 are scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today in connection with alleged drug offences.

Three men aged 44, 40 and 61 and three women aged 33, 44 and 55  will all appear in court at a later date.
