Miss Scotland formally opens shop at Edinburgh Castle

MISS Scotland, Jennifer Reoch, formally opened the newly-refurbished Portcullis shop at Edinburgh Castle yesterday, 16 May 2012.

This is part of an overall refurbishment of the shops at Edinburgh Castle which have been remodelled to reveal their historic fabric in a contemporary setting.

Nick Finnigan, Executive Manager of Edinburgh Castle said:“The refurbishment of the shops at Edinburgh Castle will not only enhance the visitor experience, but will improve Scotland’s heritage as every penny made will be re-invested into the historic environment.

“The Portcullis shop has been stripped back in areas to reveal the original walls and historic fabric of the buildings, making for an authentic shopping experience. We have a great range of gifts to give people a taste of Scotland with exclusive jewellery collections from local designers to cashmere scarves, crystal and paperweights.

“Earlier this year we opened the Whisky and Fine Foods shop, which has proved very popular with visitors and showed a 72% increase in sales in the first month of opening.

“We are also delighted to have an exclusive £8,000 bottle of whisky, one of only eighty-five bottles which was produced especially for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee sixty years ago.”
