Alan Cumming hits out at Scottish eating habits

HOLLYWOOD star Alan Cumming hit out at Scottish eating habits in a Twitter outburst earlier today.

The Scots star of X-Men 2 and the Spy Kids franchise had only just arrived back in his home country when he tweeted a picture of an advert that caught his eye.

The mysterious poster features a healthy and attractive young family smiling in their gym gear – in front of a greasy mix of chips and pizza.

Cumming condemned Scots eating habits.

The 47-year-old Tweeted: “I know I’m back in Glasgow when I see an ad with a family in gym gear smiling in front of cartons of chips and pizza.”

Cumming, from Aberfeldy, Perthshire, shared the advert, which appears to be above a shop window, with his 70,000 followers,

The post was then re-tweeted 17 times and favoured by eight of his followers.

Cummings, who stars in the upcoming adaptation of the Irvine Welsh novel Filth, sparked a mixed reaction from his followers after posting the snap.

Some twitter users found the image amusing but others took offense.

One user @lynnhig wrote: “Up yours. More healthy folk in Scotland than England and U.S.A and we are much nicer.”

@colinjarron said: “that’s funny but sadly realistic, our country is great, our diets are explosive. Only in the weedge.”

@Grrita added: I don’t understand how there’s chips AND pizza. Chips aren’t an alternative to a salad. Oh Scotland.”

A study by Glasgow University last year discovered a shocking 97.5% of Scots either smoke, drink heavily, are fat, have a bad diet or never exercise.

And 20% had all five of the bad habits, making them more likely to get cancer or heart disease.

More than 60% of Glaswegian adults and 20% of pre-school children are classed as either overweight or obese.

Some twitter users were amused by the Scottish stars tweet, with @andydougan writing: “Gym gear? Don’t you recognise Drumchapel formal i.e. matching, when you see it? You have been away a while.”

@regnron said: “Low fat chips of course. Enjoy,” with @stuseyboy adding:

“You’ve been away to long, that’s not gym gear it’s pyjamas. Chips and pizza is a Glasgow breakfast.”
