POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a scrapyard was deliberately set alight by vandals.
Approximately 35 cars were set on fire and 100 sets of windows smashed at Campbellās Auto Salvage in Collinshiel Road in Armadale between 6pm and 7pm last night.
Firefighters were called and spent approximately four hours dealing with the blaze, which led to a number of road closures and residents being ordered to shut their doors and windows due to the smoke.
The value of the damage caused by the fire is minimal, as all the vehicles were due to be scrapped.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Collinshiel Road in Armadale between 6pm and 7pm yesterday, who saw anything suspicious, to contact police.
“Similarly, anyone else who has any other information that can assist our inquiries should also get in touch.”
Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
