You’re barred: Two year city pub ban handed out

A MAN has been banned from pubs in Aberdeen city centre for two years.

The sanction was handed out by bars in the city’s Unight scheme, which promotes a zero-tolerance message to anti-social behaviour.

The Unight Aberdeen scheme brings together 21 licensed premises in the city centre, with the support and backing of Grampian Police and other partner agencies.

If someone takes part in antisocial behaviour, they could find themselves not only banned from the licensed premises where the incident took place, but from all premises of the Unight Aberdeen scheme.

Following an incident at a premises in January of this year, a 42 -year-old man was banned for six months from all members of the Unight Aberdeen premises.

Following further incidents last month, his ban has now been extended to two years.

Constable Gillian Esson said: “This shows how seriously we take antisocial behaviour in our licensed premises in Aberdeen.

“Both Grampian Police and the member premises themselves will not stand for bad behaviour.

“We will continue to work in partnership with the Unight Aberdeen members to ensure Aberdeen City Centre remains a safe place for a night out.”

Unight Aberdeen chair group member Shelly Wall said: “Unight Aberdeen’s members are committed to working towards a safe and vibrant nightlife within the city centre of Aberdeen.

“The group works hard to ensure that joy and revelry of party goers is not affected by the small minority of people who are in involved in anti-social behaviour and violence within the city centre.

“Further to the ongoing banning and sharing of information on known and convicted troublemakers, Unight Aberdeen is now working alongside various agencies with the aim to make the presence of these errant individuals within the city centre not only unwelcome but also a condition legally forced upon them.

“This extension of the banning order shows how serious we are in tackling antisocial behaviour in our premises, and proves that if you behave badly, you could find yourself banned from the whole city centre as a result.”
