Scotland swaps shorts for waterproofs as snow strikes

Much of Scotland was battered by snow, sleet and high winds today.

Just a week after parts of Aberdeenshire set new records for high temperatures, winter returned with a vengeance.

Police were warning that temperatures are set to plummet tonight, leaving many of the nation’s roads ice-bound and dangerous, particularly in the Tayside area.

Just a week ago these daffodils, near Lauder in the Scottish Borders, were bathed in sunshine and warm temperatures

And it was not just humans that suffered in the cold weather. Plants tempted out by the bizarrely warm weather of the past week got a nasty shock as bad weather returned.

Forecasters are predicting that more normal spring conditions are likely to be in place by the weekend.
