Pandas pull in punters in Corstorphine

CORSTORPHINE’S most famous inhabitants, pandas Sweetie and Sunshine, are to become the faces of a new banner campaign launched today.

The eye-catching banners, which aim to encourage more visitors into the area’s town centre, will feature the two pandas going about their daily business in Corstorphine – from getting a haircut to shopping for prams and stocking up on groceries.

They will be hung from lamp posts to promote the various niche businesses in Corstorphine as a local town centre and gateway to Edinburgh.

Sweetie and Sunshine check out the local shops

Steve McGavin, Head of Physical Development Support, said: “Corstorphine is home to some of the best contemporary independent retailers in the city.  It has its own unique identity and the banners will create a sense of this.

“Edinburgh is fortunate to have an attractive retail offer in Princes Street and George Street and so it is important to make shoppers aware of the range and quality of shops that are available in the town centres.”

A monthly competition will be launched in April to encourage visitors and families to discover Corstorphine town centre.

Shoppers will be encouraged to seek out a cuddly toy panda prize hiding in a local Corstorphine business by following the clues on the @edinshopper twitter site.

West Neighbourhood Manager Natalie Hoy added “The West Neighbourhood Team is delighted to see this promotion for businesses in Corstorphine Town Centre.”

The initiative is part of a sustained effort to build stronger town-centres in Edinburgh – promoting these key areas as shopping and visiting destinations in their own right.
