Witnesses sought following assault and robbery

Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted and robbed in Edinburgh over the weekend.

The incident happened around 3.30am yesterday (Sunday) in London Road.

A 27-year-old was walking in the area, near to the junction with Hillside Crescent when two men approached and engaged him in conversation.

At this time, one of the men threatened the victim and demanded cash, so a small sum was handed over.

The other male then punched the man to the face, causing him to fall to the ground before both suspects made off.

After returning home, the victim contacted police and was taken to the ERI where he was treated for a fractured cheekbone and a cut under his eye.

Detectives are now urging anyone who can help identify those responsible for this attack to come forward.

The first suspect is described as white, 39-35-years-old, 5ft 10ins tall with a slim build, clean-shaven complexion, short curly dark brown hair and spoke with an Easter European accent.

The second suspect is described as white, 30-35-years-old, around 6ft tall with thinning dark hair that was shaved and wearing a dark leather jacket.

A police spokesman said: “The victim has suffered painful injuries to his face, which require further medical attention and we are eager to hear from anyone who was in the area at time and witnessed this assault.

“Similarly, anyone with any other information that can assist with our enquiries is also asked to contact police immediately.”
