The 18-months old, who has not been named by police, is said to have fallen into the tub while playing in the garden at home in Bathgate, near Edinburgh.
Paramedics rushed to the scene after her distraught parents raised the alarm and she was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.
Neighbours called the accident an “absolute tragedy”
The girl, who has a four-year-old sister, died the following day.
Her parents are being comforted by relatives at their West Lothian home this week.

One said: “It’s an absolute tragedy. She was a gorgeous wee thing.
“Her parents had only been here for about four years but everybody feels absolutely heartbroken for them.
“Nobody should have to go through that.”
