As the world gears up for St Patrick’s Day a flock of woolly ambassadors in West Lothian has turned green to mark the celebrations.
The Clyde Auditorium, The Glasgow Eye, and Edinburgh’s Camera Obscura will also light-up green, as Scotland celebrates the liveliest day in the Irish calendar.
The activity is part of a global initiative by Tourism Ireland which will also see the London Eye, Niagara Falls, the Empire State Building, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Burj al Arab in Dubai and Vienna’s Burgtheater and more, all turn a shade of green.
This year’s flagship parade in Dublin will have a scientific theme to mark Dublin City of Science 2012.
The sense of discovery, wonder and amazement of science will truly come alive in spectacular style on the streets of Dublin this St. Patrick’s Day.
Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland, said: “St. Patrick’s Day traditionally marks the start of the tourism season in Ireland and we’re delighted to be continuing our greening initiative again this year, with some new additions such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Selfridges in London and even a flock of Scottish sheep.
“Our aim is to bring a smile to the faces of people around the world, whilst also showcasing our wonderful tourism product to a global audience. There has never been a better time to ‘Jump In’ and plan a visit to Ireland.”
