Police release CCTV in bid to solve attempted robberies

Police in Edinburgh have released CCTV images of individuals that they wish to trace in connection with their inquiries into two incidents that happened in the Capital last year.

The images have been released as part of Operation Arable, an initiative focusing on robberies and related crimes across the Capital.

The first incident happened around 11am on Tuesday October 4 last year.

Two men brandished a Stanley knife in Milton Road West

Two males, one of whom was brandishing a Stanley knife, attempted to rob the Post Office in Milton Road West.  The pair were unsuccessful, and following the attempt they made off on foot up Durham Road South, past the medical centre on Mountcastle Drive, and on towards Bingham Drive and the Bingham tunnel.

One of the men is described as white, 6ft tall, slim build, with medium length blond hair and a narrow face.  He was wearing a dark blue hoodie, dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

The second man is described as white, 5ft 5ins tall, medium/heavy build, wearing a cream coloured parka jacket, and dark tracksuit bottoms with lettering on the area of the knee.  He was carrying a small rucksack, and was wearing purple surgical gloves.

The second incident happened around 6.05pm on Sunday May 22 last year.

The 25-year-old victim was walking in London Street at the corner of Drummond Place when she walked past a group of youths.  Two of the youths then approached her from behind, and one grabbed her handbag and tried to pull it from her.

The victim managed to keep a hold of her handbag, and the youths made off.

The London Street pair made off empty handed

The two males in the images are both described as between 17 and 18-years-old, and around 5ft 7ins tall.  One has light brown hair, and is wearing a hooded top, and grey jogging bottoms.  The other has blond hair, and is wearing a dark polo shirt.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “We want anyone who recognises the individuals featured in the CCTV images to contact us immediately.  Likewise, anyone else who has any other information that can assist our inquiries should also get in touch.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
