Speed camera fire sparks police investigation

The camera was on the north-bound carriageway of the A90

POLICE are investigating after a speed camera was set on fire.

The “suspicious” blaze started in the machine on the A90 at Stonehaven at around 3am this morning (Tues).

The camera was placed near Mill o Forest and monitored the north-bound carriageway.

PC Mark Irvine, on Grampian Police, who is investigating the incident, said: “This type of behaviour is not only criminal but also highly irresponsible as it puts other motorists safety at risk. The camera is there for a reason: to stop motorists speeding on what is a very busy section of road.

“We are eager to speak with anyone who may have information regarding the incident, in particular any drivers of vehicles who may have seen anyone near to the camera around this time.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5 700 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.
