New library hub opened for the west of Edinburgh

The £5.7 million facility comes after long-running campaign by local residents.

TODAY marked the official opening of the new £5.7 million Drumbrae Library Hub.  Lord Provost was joined by members of the community to open the facilities.

The new building boasts a striking, modern design and provides a ‘one stop shop’ for local residents to access a wide range of activities, such as computer classes, author visits and events for all ages to enjoy.

The project was initiated by a long-running campaign by local residents for a new library and meeting place to bring the community together in the heart of West Edinburgh.

Lord Provost, George Grubb, said: “I am very pleased to be able to officially open such an eagerly anticipated facility. I am confident that the library and community hub will become an excellent meeting point for people throughout the area and for generations to come.”

Local children used the opening event to have a go at an arts and crafts session, one of the many activities that will now be available. The Hub will also provides important services such as adult day care.

The Drumbrae Library Hub was delivered by Hub South East Scotland Limited. Jo Elliot, Chairperson of Hub South East Scotland Ltd, said:

“This is an exciting time for everyone connected with the Drumbrae Library Hub, and I know that West Neighbourhood staff and the local community are already benefiting from the newly completed facility.

“It is a magnificent looking building, providing a bright, airy and comfortable working environment. It has raised the bar significantly for public buildings, and makes a strong statement of what Hub South East Scotland can deliver in its very successful partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council and the other participants.”
