Bond star Daniel Craig jets out of Glasgow on budget airline

Daniel Craig flew out of Glasgow on a Jet2 flight

BOND star Daniel Craig swapped the normal trappings of movie stardom for an economy flight out of Glasgow last week.

Craig – whose normal mode of transport as Bond is an Aston Martin – caught a Jet2 flight to Istanbul.

It is not clear whether the in-flight catering arrangement extended to a vodka martini – shaken or stirred.

The 43-year-old actor jetted out after a day’s filming in the Highlands for new Bond movie Skyfall, with his co-star Dame Judi Dench.

Movie director Sam Mendes also joined the stars, as well as 100 crew members for the next leg of filming due to take place in Turkey.

The budget airline normally fly from Glasgow to Dalaman, on Turkey’s south-west coast, but the entire aircraft was chartered for the trip to Istanbul.

Craig and Dench, 77, were spotted filming scenes for the upcoming Bond movie with the stunnig peak of Buachaille Etive Mór as the backdrop.

It is thought that director Sam Mendes wanted to engage with Ian Fleming’s roots for the upcoming secret-agent film, as the Scots author’s father hailed from Glencoe.

Producers are rumoured to have even visited the Dalness Estate, which once belonged to Fleming’s family.

Police from Northern Constabulary closely guarded the crew as they filmed in freezing conditions last week.

Craig is not the first Holywood A-lister to film in the world-famous pass.

Andy Meldrum, owner of Glencoe Mountain Resort, claimed their ability to keep a secret is part of the reason why Hollywood producers love to come to Glencoe.

He said: “We certainly seem to attract the Hollywood films. There have been a couple of big adverts too including one for the newVolkswagen Touareg.

“They seem to like the fact that we have plenty room and that we’re quite discreet.

“These things have to be top secret for the films.

“It’s part of the contract so staff are sworn to secrecy,” he said.

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport confirmed: “Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench flew out of Glasgow at 9pm on Thursday on a Jet2 airline chartered by Pinewood Studios.

“Sam Mendes spent some time in the Skylounge. Daniel Craig and Dame Judi had tickets but declined.

“The crews arrived on Wednesday but Daniel Craig made his own way to Glasgow.”

Skyfall is the third Bond film to shoot in Scotland. Parts of the Faslane naval base were used in the Spy Who Loved Me, while Eilean Donan Castle was used as a MI6 base in the World Is Not Enough.

Skyfall is due to be released in October.
