THE Scottish community that managed to evict Da Vinci Code rapist Robert Greens is living in fear of another sex attacker being released from jail.
Angus Brown, from Midlothian, was imprisoned for four-and-a-half years in 2009 for sexually abusing four girls, some as young as seven.
The snack van owner abused one girl as she helped out at his fast food van when she was 12.
Brown’s victims are worried he will be placed in housing near to them when he is released from Peterhead Prison next week, just three years into his sentence.
A family member, related to one of Brown’s victims, warned that demonstrators could take to the streets of Midlothian just days after around 200 protested at the rehousing of Greens in Dalkeith.
Greens, dubbed the Da Vinci Code rapist, after a sickening assault on a woman near Rosslyn Chapel, had to be moved earlier this week.
Concerned
The family member, who can not be named for legal reasons, said: “We received a letter telling us that Brown was being released on February 15.
“The victims live in various parts of Midlothian. If Brown comes back to live here then we are concerned where he will stay.
“The victims are being left terrified that he will be put in the same place as them.
“They’ll be scared to go to the shops, the doctors surgery, anywhere they could bump into him again.
“We are being left in the dark. This will not come from our family, but if Brown is housed in Midlothian then I’m sure it will be the Robert Greens situation all over again. There will be the same kind of protests.”
The family member continued: “One of Brown’s victims lives in Dalkeith and she had to watch what was happening with Greens. She had to move out for a while because she couldn’t take seeing it. I reminded her of the abuse she suffered.
“We just want empathy for the family and the victims when Brown is being housed, The victims are already horrified he’s getting out after only three years. This is torture for young woman who are still suffering and will continue to suffer for the rest of their lives.”
Brown was 64 when he was jailed at Peterhead Prison for a decade-long string of offences against underage girls.
He abused one girl at his fast food van between 1998 and 2000 and another three, aged between seven and 16 at various Penicuik addresses.
A spokesman from Midlothian Council, said: “Public safety is of paramount importance, and we are working closely with out partner agencies to ensure that Scottish Government guidance relating to the risk management of sex offenders if followed.
“There are robust procedures in place to manage sex offenders, but we cannot comment on individual cases.”
The Scottish Prison Service said they do not comment on individual prisoners.
