A MAN is in intensive care in hospital after falling into a Scottish harbour.
It is believed the man, who is from Norway, spent several minutes in the freezing water before being pulled out just after 1.30am today.
The 39-year-old is thought to have fallen from a boat.
Police, ambulance and coastguard crews rushed to the scene and the man was rescued from the water.
He was rushed to Ninewells hospital in Dundee, where his condition remains critical.
A spokesman for Tayside police said: “Tayside Police attended at Montrose Harbour at about 1.30am this morning, along with other emergency services, the coastguard and RNLI, after a 39-year-old man was reported to have fallen into the water.
“The man – a Norwegian national – was quickly taken out of the harbour, but it is understood he had been in the water for several minutes.
“He was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where his condition was described as critical earlier today.
“While there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, enquiries are continuing and Tayside Police appeals to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact 0300 111 2222.”
