Woman sexually assaulted after night out

Police are appealing for information following the attack

A WOMAN was sexually assaulted as she walked home from a night out in the early hours of Saturday morning, police say.

Lothian and Borders police are appealing for information after the woman was attacked in Edinburgh’s McDonald Road.

The attack happened at 3.25am.

She was walking down the road when a man, thought to be around 28, attempted to strike up a conversation with her.

He then grabbed her and assaulted her, officers say.

But she managed to pull free of the attacker, who ran off in the direction of Leith Walk.

The suspect is described as dark skinned, possibly of Indian origin, and 5’ 6’’ tall.

He has very thick black eyebrows, short wavy dark hair and a black moustache.

He was wearing a black coat with a hood and black trousers at the time of the assault.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Leith Walk or McDonald Road area of the city at the time who may have seen the incident or the suspect.

Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or anonymously call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
