Second woman sexually assaulted on Meadows

Police are not currently linking the recent attack to a similar one last week

A WOMAN was sexually assaulted as she jogged through a city park.

The 21-year-old was attacked close to the tennis courts on Edinburgh’s Meadows between 6.50pm and 7pm yesterday (Tues).

Her assailant grabbed her from behind and forced her to the ground where he sexually assaulted her.

However she was able to fight the man off and he fled towardsBuccleuch Street.

He is described as being around 30-years-old, 5ft 10ins tall, and is dark-skinned. He was clean-shaven at the time and was wearing a grey hooded top.

Police say there is nothing to suggest the attack is linked to a similar incident on the Meadows on November 16 but have not ruled out the possibility.

Officers will be stationed on the Meadows to reassure the public.

A police spokesman said: “This was an extremely distressing ordeal for the victim, who bravely fought off her attacker before he made his escape.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Meadows last night, who witnessed the incident, or noticed anyone acting suspiciously there, to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity in 0800 555 111.
