A MAN who died after falling from a second-storey flat in Fife this morning (Wed) may have been swinging from Christmas decorations.
The incident happened in the Crossgate, Cupar at around 8.55am, outside a real estate agents.
The man, in his mid-30s, suffered multiple injuries from the fall and later died at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
Today a source close to the incident responded to suggestions that the man had been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
He said: “I think he must have been. Why else would you be hanging from Christmas decorations at ten to nine in the morning.
“I don’t know if he just slipped and lost his grip or if they gave way.”
A woman who did not wish to be named said she saw the injured man lying on the pavement when she arrived to work.
“I came in to work this morning and I saw him lying on the pavement. He fell from the flats next door. It was absolutely horrible.
“His friends were gathered around him, completely spaced out. They must have been in a complete state of panic. One of the girls was crying hysterically. They must have been upstairs with him when he fell, they looked like they were all together.”
She added: “He was conscious but was obviously in severe pain. He was crying out from his injuries. It was horrific.”
Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident.
They have not confirmed if the incident is being treated as suspicious, but a spokesman said efforts were being made to contact the man’s family to inform them of his death.
The spokesman added: “We are appealing for anyone who was either in the Cupar town centre area who may have witnessed any part of this incident, or have any information which may assist our enquiries, to call us on 0845 600 5702.”
