A MAN who sexually assaulted two young girls in Midlothian over a 16-year period has been jailed.
John Steen was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday for the attacks on his victims when they were between three and 13-years-old.
The 57-year-old was told he must serve 11 years in prison for the offences, which took place between 1987 and 2003.
Detective Chief Inspector Kenny Gray said: “John Steen has been proven to be a predatory character who subjected two young girls to a prolonged period of abuse.
“Despite the time that passed since these offences took place, Lothian and Borders Police were able to build a strong case against Steen and the sentence handed down to him is a reflection our commitment and the commitment of the Crown Office to bring sex offenders to justice.
“The ordeal his victims had to endure from such a young age was unthinkable and it is my sincere hope that they now begin to move on with their lives.
