Business school unveils technically advanced MBA course

The University's online MBA will allow students to study via iPads

A NEW online MBA from a leading Edinburgh Business School will be one of the most technically advanced in the world – designed to create the next great global business leaders.

The Business School at Edinburgh Napier University today launched the online version of its MBA which, unlike other online MBAs on the market, can be used on all digital and mobile platforms, including the iPad and tablet computers.

Its innovative teaching technologies enable it to be 100 per cent online and mobile technology compatible.

The new programme content has been developed to address the contemporary issues within the business and financial environment which led to the global economic downturn.

The thrust of the new online MBA emphasises the significance of leadership and emotional intelligence, the legal consequences of business decision-making, combined with the importance of financial and management analysis.

The new online MBA has been created in response to current market and individual student demands for flexibility in balancing study with work, domestic and family commitments.

Mammed Bagher, a former investment banker and Programme Director of the Edinburgh Napier MBA Programme, said: “At a time when budgets are tight, many people need to earn while they learn to develop their careers.

“This new online MBA is one of the most technically advanced in the world, by enabling student access to their learning environment at any time and any place.

“The result is a more responsive learning experience, allowing students from across the globe the option to develop their career prospects further with a globally recognised qualification.

Global

“We aim to create great business leaders who want to better the communities and companies in which they work by showing them how to use their emotional intelligence within their businesses environment, whilst addressing the legal, financial and managerial consequences of decision-making.”

Edinburgh Napier has seen an 85 per cent rise in international student applications since 2006/2007, with specific growth areas being Hong Kong (134%), China(86%) and the EU (64%).

The MBA module leaders are an international teaching team, representing Africa, North America, Europe andAsia.

Mammed Bagher added: “Our international team is uniquely placed to deliver an MBA with a global business perspective – a valuable asset given the global nature of modern business. On top of that, the online resources mean students from across the world can form or join networks to interact together.”

Students will also be able to take advantage of a fully integrated online learning experience which, unlike any other online MBA, includes interactive online study guides supported by core texts.

Mike Gordon, senior associate at CAPDM, the company assisting with marketing and development of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), said: “Online MBAs are becoming increasingly popular with professionals who are looking to develop their career at their own pace and in their own environment. The point of difference for this new online MBA is in being highly student centric in its focus.

“Right now, there cannot be a better return on investment from education. The competitively low fees of £800 per module and £7,200 for the complete MBA should be regarded as the seed money that produces a career-long uplift in annual earnings.”

Edinburgh Napier University is also launching an online MSc in Business Management, for people who want an academic course in management, or who do not currently have the work experience to study for an MBA.  There is a route to top up later to an MBA if desired.

Some of the modules which will be covered in the online MBA include Organisational Behaviour, Finance for Management Decision Making, Contemporary Issues in Strategic Management, and Creating Competitive Advantage. Prospective students eager to get a taste of the course before signing up will also have access to try-before-you-buy demonstration materials.
