Woman assaulted in city hotel

The woman was attacked after returning to Rick's hotel

A WOMAN was horrifically sexually assaulted by a man she met in an upmarket nightclub and then shared a rickshaw ride back to her hotel with.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning at the four star Rick’s Hotel in Edinburgh’s Fredrick Street.

The victim had met her attacker on Saturday night at Lulu’s nightclub and then shared a rickshaw with him to the hotel.

Police said the couple arrived at the hotel at around 1.45am and then headed to the woman’s room.

The attacker is described as white, aged about 30, 5ft 8ins to 6ft, short dark hair, and of stocky build with a beer belly.

He spoke with an Eastern European accent and was wearing a dark bomber-type jacket with cream cuffs.

Police were alerted by the woman the following day.

Detective Chief Inspector Willie Guild said: “This has been a horrific ordeal for the victim to endure after coming to Edinburgh to enjoy a night out with friends.

“We are eager to hear from anyone who saw the suspect during Saturday evening or as he made his way to the hotel with the woman in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“Similarly, anyone who saw any suspicious activity in or around the Rick’s Hotel after 2am, or who can help officers identify this man is also asked to contact police immediately.”

Lulu’s recently hosted Mike Tindall and Zara Phillips, who partied there a few weeks before their wedding in Edinburgh.

And Prince Albert of Monaco spent almost £1,500 on drinks with frends at the club earlier this month.
