Police seek cabbie assault witnesses

Two passengers were in the black cab at the time and police are keen to speak to them

POLICE believe two taxi passengers could be valuable witnesses after a taxi driver apparently punched another cabbie in an early morning row.

The driver of the black cab targeted the private-hire driver following an argument outsideEdinburgh’s Silk nightclub at around 3am on Friday.

Following the verbal exchange, the black cab driver got out of his vehicle and allegedly punched the 30-year-old victim before driving off.

At the time, the black cab driver had two passengers in his vehicle who may have witnessed the exchange, and officers are now keen to trace them as a matter of urgency.

Officers are also keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and who may have general information that may assist in their enquiries.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A Lothian and Borders police spokesman said: “Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances around this allaeged assault.

“The area around the nightclub would have been busy at the time, and we would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard the incident.”
