Man suffered fractured cheekbone in Edinburgh attack

The man was attacked by one of a group of youths

A MAN has been left with facial injuries following an unprovoked attack in Edinburgh.

The 48-year-old victim was walking from Craigleith Retail Park towards Telford Road at around 3.35pm on Thursday (Nov 3).

Near a McDonald’s restaurant, he passed a group of around 10 or 12 youths.

One of the boys punched him in the face before they made off towards the retail park.

The victim attended at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Saturday (5th November) and was later transferred to St John’s Hospital where he is currently being treated for fractures to his left cheekbone.

Police were then contacted and are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the assault to come forward.

The group of youths are all described as white, male and between the 12 and 16-years-old.

A police spokesman said: “This was an entirely unprovoked assault on an unsuspecting victim, leaving him with painful injuries to his face.

“Anyone who was in the Groathill Avenue area on Thursday at around 3.35pm and saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.

“Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing the group prior to, or following the incident and can assist in identifying them.”

Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
