A MAN was punched in the face and robbed as he walked home from a night out.

The 23-year-old victim was walking home alone at around 3am yesterday (Sunday), having just left the Studio24 nightclub in Edinburgh.

The man was attacked as he walked home in Edinburgh

After a short time, a man approached and engaged him in conversation as the pair walked along Calton Hill and onto Abbeyhill.

Halfway between Abbeyhill and the railway bridge, the suspect punched his victim to the face, knocking him to the ground before robbing him of his belongings and making off.

The man suffered minor cuts and bruising but did not need to go to hospital.

Police are now keen to speak with anyone who was in the area and can assist with their enquiries.

In particular, officers would like to speak with the driver and passengers of a small silver hatchback car, which was known to be in the area following the incident.

The suspect is described as white, 20-25-years-old, 5ft 10ins tall and well built with short brown hair. He was wearing a black waterproof jacket, dark jeans and shoes.

A police spokesman said: “Despite the time of this assault, there were potentially a number of people leaving the various venues in the area and we would urge anyone who witnessed the attack to come forward.

“Officers are carrying out local enquiries to identify the man responsible and would urge the driver and passengers of the silver hatchback to come forward immediately to assist with the investigation.

“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect or has any other information should also contact police.”
