TEE-TOTAL thieves broke into a Highland distillery – and didn’t touch a drop.

It’s thought the raiders entered the Ben Nevis Distillery at Lochy Bridge, near Fort William sometime between 5pm on Friday, October 21 and 3.30pm on Sunday, October 23.

Nothing was taken during the break-in to the office area of the site.

Managing Director Colin Ross said the break-in was discovered by a cleaner, who swept up broken glass from a window but did not report the find due to lack of phone credit.

He said he was contacted early on Monday morning by workers arriving for a shift.

“Two broken windows, that’s the extent of it.

“There was orders made up for export and open boxes in the hall but they took nothing, not even a bottle.

“I don’t know what all the fuss is about. I was called at about 8am by workers who said there’d been a break in. I didn’t want to go into a possible crime scene but if I’d known noting was missing I wouldn’t have bothered calling the police.”

Mr Ross said the 186-year-old distillery was treating the incident as “a warning” and would be implementing new security measures.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw vehicles or people at the distillery over the weekend.

Anyone with information can contact Fort William police station on 01397 702316 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
