SCOTLAND’S food industry could lead the world in sustainable food production according to culinary business experts.
The new Chief Executive of Scotland Food and Drink, James Withers, believes the country has made huge strides in producing more with less.
In his first speech in his new role, Mr Withers claims: “At first glance producing more food with less energy, less water and fewer greenhouse gas emissions looks like mission impossible.
“However, it isn’t and in fact is already happening.
“Since 1990 agriculture has reduced its emissions by a quarter while production has either been maintained or is growing. In a world where consumers and politicians ill increasingly demand sustainable systems, Scotland can be a model to follow.”
