A TAXI driver is in a serious condition in hospital after being found with head injuries in a layby.
The 52-year-old man was found lying beside his vehicle beside a main road at 7am this morning.
He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police are now carrying out enquiries to establish how he came to be in the layby on the A68, around half a mile south of Pathhead.
A police spokesperson said “This man has sustained serious injuries, and, while we do believe he was subject to an assault of some kind we are yet to establish the full circumstances.
“Our enquiries are at a very early stage, and we would appeal to anyone who may have seen a black cab in the Pathhead area last night to come forward as a matter of urgency.
“I would also ask any commuters who may have passed the lay-by just prior to 7am this morning to come forward to us – they may hold vital clues about what happened to this man.”
