Sculptor stirs things up by cooking with chainsaw

Robin Wood dices up his veg on the BBC1 show

MOVE over Gordon Ramsay, here comes the chainsaw chef.

Scots wood sculptor Robin Wood will astound TV audiences tomorrow night (Sat) by making a stir fry – with a chainsaw.

The 41-year-old artist used the giant, powered blade to slice and dice vegetables with amazing dexterity.

Robin, from Humbie, East Lothian, even uses the chainsaw to create his own stirring fork and bowl from wood.

His remarkable party piece was filmed for the BBC One show ‘Epic Win’ in which contestants are challenged to perform their unique skills in front of a studio audience and panel, featuring comedians and guests.

Amid the deafening noise of the chainsaw, Robin slices thin strips of carrot, cabbage and pepper.

As the vegetables cook, he attacks a tree trunk, fashioning a fork and then carving out a bowl.

The whole performance, watched by fellow guests and presenters wearing face masks and googles, takes just three minutes.

Robin said he can’t reveal if he left the show with the £3,000 top prize money but said he did “alright”.

The sculptor, who normally produces intricately-carved animals, was scouted to appear on the show after speaking about his work on BBC Radio 6 Music.

He added: “Someone from the BBC was listening and they were producing this new show. They asked would I be interested in being on the show and was there anything I could do with a chainsaw.

“I came up with an idea I had for a while and after lots of to-ing and fro-ing, health and safety and lots of rehearsals, it’s been filmed. I do a very unusual chainsaw carving act – live on stage.”

The show is presented by Alexander Armstrong and airs on Saturday at 5.30pm on BBC One.
