Man dies after being pulled out of Water of Leith

AN ELDERLY man has died after being found in a city river today (Sun).

The 84-year-old man, who has not been named, was rescued from the Water of Leith in Edinburgh but was pronounced dead in hospital.

It is unknown how the man came to be in the water but police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders police said: “Shortly after 8 o’clock this morning the Emergency Services received a call about an elderly male within the Water of Leith in the Stockbridge Area of Edinburgh. “

The man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where staff pronounced him dead.

The spokesman continued:

“Enquiries are continuing to establish why the male entered the water, but early indications are there appear to be no suspicious circumstances.”

His Next of Kin will be notified in due course.
