TWO men have suffered severe injuries in unprovoked incidents in Edinburgh.
The first man had his jaw broken, while the other man was slashed across the face with a knife.
The incidents took place a week apart but a police spokesman said there was nothing to suggest they were linked.
The first assault took place in the Cannonmills area of the city on Sunday, July 3 but the victim only went to police on Monday.
The 26-year-old victim was queuing with friends to buy refreshments at a service station when he was approached and punched in the face.
He was taken to hospital where he had surgery to repair his broken jaw.
The attacker is described as white with dark hair. He was wearing a black t-shirt with a logo on it and maroon trousers.
The second man was attacked in broad daylight after shopping at a Tesco near the city centre.
The 48-year-old victim was slashed across the face with a knife at around 11am while he walked home via Haddon’s Close.
His attacker, who was wearing a green hoodie with white stripes and had a shaved head, then fled into Howden Street, and then into Gilmour Street.
A police spokesman said: “This was a violent and unprovoked attack that left the victim with serious facial injuries that required hospital treatment.
