THERE have been many claims of big cats roaming wild in the Scottish countryside over the years, but now a former top-flight footballer is claiming he has seen one of the beasts.

Scottish Cup winner, Alex Edwards, a player with Dunfermline Athletic in the 60s and 70s, claims he spotted the large black cat while out walking his daughter’s dog and insisted

“I know what I saw.”

Alex saw the animal while walking at Forrester Park Golf Club in Cairneyhill near Dunfermline, Fife and initially thought it was one of the landowners large black poodles.

He said:

“At first I thought it was a dog but not the way it was walking.

“It was just walking along before disappearing into long crops. “

Asked about his opinion on previous reports of big cats in the area, he said:

“I never believed them. I thought these guys were crackers.

“But it’s been spotted a few times in Cairneyhill, I’ve heard.

“I saw something that wasn’t a dog but a large cat bigger than a Labrador. “

Alex was around 100 yards away from the cat and waited 20 minutes to see if it would reappear but did not see it again.

He called landowner Bobby Forester to tell him about his experience.

“He said the cows will kick it,’ said Alex.

“He said he wasn’t worried about his young calves because he has large dogs. “

Bob Wallace, West Fife representative for Big Cats in Britain called the sighting

“feasible.”
