Sir Alex Ferguson to return to Dunfermline

By Kirsty Topping

ALEX Feguson is making a shock return to Dunfermline Athletic as they are promoted to the SPL.

Unfortunately for fans of the club where he began his professional playing career it won’t be in a managerial capacity.

The Manchester United manager will return to the team he signed for in 1964, to host a charity gala evening next Thursday.

He will meet up with other former Pars players next Thursday to raise funds for the Mary Leishman Foundation.

Sir Alex will answer questions on his management career, from the early days at Aberdeen to his current 24 year reign at Manchester United.

As a player with the team, Sir Alex scored 45 goal in 51 games of the 1965-66 season.

He then took Aberdeen to the top of the Scottish league, won the Scottish Cup and took the team to Europe before moving the Manchester United in 1986.

The Mary Leishman Foundation was set up by Jim Leishman in memory of his late wife and provides funding for local causes.

Tickets for the event, at Dunfermline’s Alhambra Theatre, go on sale tomorrow (Friday).
