Elderly woman in hospital after hitting head inside taxi

A 93-year-old woman is in a serious condition in hospital after falling out of her seat when a taxi driver braked suddenly.

The elderly lady was travelling in a black Mercedes Vito taxi on Edinburgh’s Queensferry Road at around 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday).

The driver braked suddenly and the woman fell from her seat causing her to bang her head.

The taxi driver stopped at a bus stop nearby and the woman was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police are now appealing to anyone that was in the area at the time to come forward.

A police spokesman said: “We want to speak to any motorists or pedestrians who were in the area of Queensferry Road, close to Clermiston Road North, who may have witnessed the incident.

“Anyone else who has any information that can assist our inquiries should also get in touch.”

Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
