Man rescued from 30-foot drop using crane

A MAN had to be rescued using a crane after falling 30-feet into a dry dock.

The 49-year-old was lifted to safety by firefighters who used a crane and a cage to bring him to the surface at the Imperial Docks in Edinburgh today (Tue).

Ambulance crews alerted Lothian and Borders Fire Service to the incident at around 3.30pm.

More than 20 firefighters were on the scene and a police escort was required for the ambulance to get to hospital.

There is no indication to how badly injured the man is.

A police spokesman said that it appeared to be an industrial accident and that the Health and Safety Executive had been made aware of the incident.
