Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill launches the PrisonWatch at HMP Edinburgh.
A unique partnership initiative between Lothian and Borders Police and the Scottish Prison Service to tackle the introduction of contraband such as drugs and mobile phones.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative PrisonWatch will invite local people or prison visitors, in an initiative akin to Neighbourhood Watch schemes, to report suspicious activity around HMP Edinburgh where over 600 drugs and mobile phone seizures were made in 2010.
A special hotline will be used and the number widely advertised in the vicinity.
